About the festival

Saenggeo Jincheon Culture Festival is the single largest festival held in Jincheon, one of the best places to live in Korea. The festival has been held annually with the purpose of maintaining and promoting the traditional culture and heritage of Saenggeo Jinchecon and creating a more enriched life for local residents through culture and art. (The Festival was first held in 1979.)

Saenggeo Jincheon Culture Festival was called the Sansan Festival between 1979 and 1998. In 1998, the discovery of several historic relics established that Jincheon was the birthplace of General Kim, Yu-shin, and the origin of the Hwarang Spirit, so the name of the Festival was changed to Saenggeo Jincheon Hwarang Festival in 1999 and that name was used until 2007. In 2008, as part of the efforts to create a new, future-oriented cultural event that integrates the livelihood of local residents with the cultural heritage of Saenggeo Jincheon while elevating the value of Saenggeo, the name of festival was changed to Saenggeo Jincheon Cultural Festival and has retained this name since then.
