About Jincheon
History
Jincheon was once called Gummulno-gun, namely Manno-gun or Suji, then Sinji during the period of the Goguryeo-dynasty. This was changed to Hukyang-gun during the period of the Shilla-dynasty and later became known as Hwangyang-gun.
In the earlier period of the Goryeo era Jincheon was called Gangju, which was later changed to Jinju. King Seongjong assigned it the status Jasa, but King Mokjong removed this status later. In addition, Jincheon belonged to Cheongju during the reign of King Hyeonjong.
King Gojong changed the name to Changui-hyeon and assigned a governor called Hyollong. King Wonjong changed the name to Uiryeong and assigned it the status of Kunsa. During the period of the Josun Dynasty, the name was changed to Sangsan but later was renamed Jincheon Gammu .
It was renamed as Jincheon and an official called Hyeongam was appointed in 1413 during the reign of Taejong of Joseon. Jincheon temporarily belonged to Gyeonggi-do in 1505 during the reign of Yeonsangun, but reverted to Chungcheon-do again at the beginning of the reign of King Jungjong.
In accordance with Imperial Ordiance No. 98, King Gojong appointed a Gunsu (magistrate of a county) instead of Hyeongam on May 26, 1895.
